Learning methods and activities
Under the pandemic restrictions youth were one if not the most affected group of the population, due to the lack of focus in the society towards their need for socialization, one of the most important being practicing group sports. Through this application we are addressing the priority of year 2022 – promoting healthy lifestyle among children and youth in a number of 4 small communities in Dolj County
Needs of youth:
- To have access to sport activities, especially in a pandemic context that cut them off from their main source of doing sports, that of face to face school
- To not be so dependent of school formal sport curricula, being capacitated to act as their own initiators of free time sport activities
- To become aware of the importance of healthy lifestyle choices starting from a young age and of the fact that it is an on-going work maintaining both their physical and mental health
- To change the mentality towards the one where they see themselves responsible for becoming involved in tackling the problems they are facing, through active participation in the life of a community
Hence the objectives of the project include:
- Development of an environment proper for gathering information, testing and adapting methods to tackle the constant development of sport activities in small communities
- Interpersonal development and competences useful in the work and personal life environment
- Trial and error pilot testing the methods in partner communities

Accomodation

Similarities between communities:
- – In each community, volunteers will work with young people and children, through partnerships developed with schools and youth organizations
- – Each community has a hospital (with emergency room), supermarkets and socialization facilities at the level of small communities
- – All are considered cities, but they are localities with few citizens and with a daily life that brings more to the idea of villages
- – All localities have access by frequent public means of transport to Craiova (the county capital)
BECHET
- – The smallest of the communities, with an area of 25 square kilometers and a number of 3,600 inhabitants
- – Distance from Craiova approximately 80 km
- – Located on the banks of the Danube river, being also a port town
- – The accommodation is in a dormitory of the teachers of a school, being a very good quality accommodation, with many facilities, in rooms for 2 or 3 people divided by gender
- – The activities are carried out in partnership with the school, which also has a sports field and a generous yard
- – Public activities are organized in the community park as well as in the central area
- – There are leisure and socializing spaces in the community
- – During the project, an Erasmus+ youth exchange (for 7 days) will be organized in the partner school, thus having the opportunity to meet young people from other countries and develop thematic evenings together as well as public activities together
BALS
- – A community geographically located in Olt county, but in reality much closer to Craiova than others, with an area of 37 square kilometers and a number of 18,200 inhabitants
- – Distance from Craiova approximately 25 km
- – Accommodation is in a student dormitory, in rooms for 3-4 people divided by gender, with facilities according to the standards of student dormitories in our county
- – The activities are carried out in partnership with 2 schools in the community and a very attractive and impactful Youth Center for young people, being a non-formal and unique space that attracts many young people (concerts, themed evenings, etc. are frequently organized here)
- – Public activities are organized in the community park as well as in the central area

- – In this community there are leisure spaces and places to spend free time
CALAFAT
- – A large community as well, with an area of approximately 128 square kilometers and a number of over 17,000 inhabitants
- – Located on the banks of the Danube river, being also a port city
- – The distance from Craiova is approximately 85 km
- – Accommodation will be in rented apartments, in rooms for 2 people divided by gender. It should be mentioned that in the town of Calafat there are no gas pipes (due to the low altitude and the location on the river bank), the houses being equipped with gas cylinders for the kitchens. We also mention that the houses are not among the most modern, but they have all the necessary facilities
- – The activities are carried out in partnership with the school, which also has a sports field
- – Public activities are organized in the community park as well as in the central area
- – Being a city on the bank of the river and with a large number of inhabitants (compared to the others), it has leisure spaces and a beach
Aspects to score for all communities:
- – These communities are small communities, with warm and welcoming people, with children and young people who are eagerly waiting for you to come to their community
- – The zonal coordinator is in the community, together with young people and other resource persons from the community, all wanting to offer you pleasant memories and help you during the project
- – As part of the project, you will have two major visits to Craiova that will bring together all the volunteers from all 4 communities: one on August 12 at the Volunteer Festival (a large-scale event organized by our association that involves many young people, non-governmental organizations, local artists, etc.) and one on August 17 in which the association will prepare surprises for you in Craiova and a day full of beautiful experiences
- – We know that these localities have a good potential for developing the project and we are convinced that the volunteers will have unique experiences, despite the fact that they are not big cities. However, it represents a 42-day challenge for volunteers and a huge opportunity to experience new activities, together with relevant and welcoming people from the community
